Photos: Douglas College Royals' 2023 soccer finales a tune-up for playoffs

The New Westminster post-secondary's teams are looking for redemption after falling short of conference titles and national championship berths in 2022.

Douglas College's soccer teams are now gearing up for playoffs - and a potential shot at redemption from last year.

The Royals' women's and men's clubs matched up against the Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners today, Oct. 22, on home turf in their 2023 home and regular-season finales.

The Women's squad opened the scoring in the first half, with a goal by Sarah Svetic of Burnaby. Tori Hauptman of the Mariners tied things up in the second. The Men's side were defeated 3-2.

They play all their home games at Cunnings Field at Town Centre Park in Coquitlam.

The New Westminster post-secondary may have a good chance at winning both divisions in the PACWEST.

In 2022, the women's team fell short in the conference title, as well as a nationals appearance, losing to VIU in the final by a score of 5-1.

On the men's side, Douglas College lost in the semi-final to VIU, who went on to win the PACWEST banner over Langara.

The PACWEST soccer playoffs will be played at VIU starting Saturday, Oct. 28.
