A New Westminster senior is expected to a make full recovery after he was hit by a car while crossing Eighth Avenue at Fourth Street Monday evening.

Shortly before 5 p.m., a 76-year-old man was crossing in a marked crosswalk when a female driver traveling down Eighth Avenue struck him, according to Sgt. Diana McDaniel of the New Westminster police.

"Our traffic section is continuing to investigate," McDaniel said. "The victim is expected to have a full recovery."

The victim sustained some broken ribs and a knee injury, and police hadn't confirmed whether or not he had been released from hospital yet, she added.

According to McDaniel, it is too early in the investigation to say if any charges will be laid as investigators are still processing the evidence they gathered at the scene.

The driver remained at the scene and has been cooperating with investigators, McDaniel added.
