Grace Wardle was crowned Miss New Westminster Ambassador before a packed crowd at Massey Theatre Saturday night.
Wardle, Miss New Westminster Police Officers Association, was one of six young women vying for the title. Saturday's pageant featured speeches by the young women and a dance number done to Michael Jackson's Thriller.
The Hyack Festival Association sponsors the annual pageant. This year's other contestants were: Natasha Bosnjak, Miss De Dutch; Maggy Dera-Rodriguez, Miss G&F Financial; Cyndi Lei, Miss Royal City Rotary; Maggie Rogal, Miss Salmonbellies; and Rachel Sibayan, Miss Kiwanis Club.
According to the Hyack Festival Association, the ambassador program was established in 1948 to give young New Westminster women the chance to get experience in etiquette and public speaking. Miss New Westminster and her ambassadors represent the Hyack Festival Association and the City of New Westminster at events throughout the year.
