Kathy Lynn, facilitator for New West’s Parkinson’s support group, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2019 and said the society does a “tremendous job” offering support to people living with Parkinson’s.

The non-profit manages support groups (in New West, the monthly meetup is at Century House) and informational webinars; connects the community to resources including counselling; and supports research studies.

Lynn said the support groups are for those both with Parkinson’s disease and their caretakers.

“There’s a place to come where you can talk to other people that are going through the same thing as you are,” she said.

In B.C., there are about 15,000 people in B.C. living with Parkinson’s disease, a neurological disorder with no known cure.

“This event helps fund life-changing programs and services like counselling, support groups, exercise programs, and much more. … We are looking forward to welcoming participants back in person in 2022, so that everyone touched by Parkinson’s knows they are not alone.” said Jean Blake, CEO of Parkinson Society B.C in a news release.
