PAC chair mulls run

The head of New Westminster's group for parents involved in their kids' education is stepping aside to consider a future in local politics.

The head of New Westminster's group for parents involved in their kids' education is stepping aside to consider a future in local politics.

MaryAnn Mortensen, chair of the district-wide parents' advisory council, made the announcement following a meeting Monday night.

"I want to take this time to let you know that I am taking a leave of absence from DPAC until further notice, as I am taking some time to consider running for trustee in the next election," she wrote in an email, following Monday night's DPAC meeting.

Mortensen hasn't decided for sure if she'll run or what party she is interested in.

"I'm taking the leave so I can properly think and consider what it's going to mean for myself and my family," she said. "I haven't made any decisions yet."

Mortensen has two children in the school system and has been active in the district-wide parents' group since 2008.
