An online petition is calling for the public washrooms to be installed in New Westminster.
The New West-based CAT Peer Network has created a petition urging civic leaders to install publically accessible washrooms in New Westminster. The petition, which aims to get 1,000 signatures, is found at www.ipettitions.com (search for Petition to install publicly accessible washrooms in New Westminster).
“We have a problem in New Westminster. The problem being a lack in restroom facilities. This is mostly affecting people experiencing homelessness,” states the petition. “Most businesses will not allow non customers to use their restrooms, and the ones that do allow use are only open during certain hours. This forces people experiencing homelessness to use alleys, streets and bushes to relieve themselves. Our proposal would be porta-potties in certain areas of New Westminster. This would help keep our streets clean, and allow dignity to people living without homes.”
The organizers’ goal is to get 1,000 people to sign the online petition.
