That sound you hear is the collective “whoop, whoop” of parents as they learn there will not be a second-consecutive snow day in New Westminster.
The New Westminster School District announced at 6 a.m. that all public schools are open for business today (Thursday).
This follows the closure of schools on Wednesday due to heavy snowfall and sub-zero temperatures that led the provincial government to actually issue a warning telling the public to stay home if at all possible.
That closure left many parents scrambling for child-care options.
The snowfall in New West was less than predicted overnight Wednesday/Thursday, although heavy winds were experienced in the city.
The school district is leaving the ultimate decision to come to school in the hands of parents.
“Student safety is our priority and we ask that if a parent/guardian feels that a child cannot travel safely to school, then they should make alternate arrangements for their child,” read a message from the school district.“Student absences due to unsafe travel to school during inclement weather conditions will be excused.”
