New data from the BC Centre for Disease Control has shed more light on the worst active COVID-19 outbreak at a New Westminster care home.
B.C. health authorities list when an outbreak occurs at care home, but don’t post specific data such as total cases and deaths related to the outbreak on a regular basis.
That’s all changed as of Thursday when the B.C. government said it will post weekly data related to the outbreaks.
In New West, the current outbreak at Royal City Manor, a long-term care home, has resulted in 14 cases since Jan. 3. So far, however, there hasn’t been a single death, which is different than many of the other outbreaks listed by the BCCDC right now.
By comparison, the long-term care facility Queen’s Park Care Centre had outbreaks in October and November 2020 that saw 10 resident cases and four deaths.
Overall in B.C., eight more seniors died from COVID-19 between Wednesday and Thursday for a total of 970 people since the first death from the virus happened in B.C. on March 9.
