A tragic local story now has a sad conclusion.

New Westminster resident Joyce Dobranski committed suicide on June 28.

Dobranski had been charged with manslaughter earlier this year in connection with the June 2011 death of her six-month old son.

Dobranski was charged in March, following an investigation by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

The incident goes back more than a year, when Dobranski called 911 and reported her baby in distress at her Royal City home at 4 a.m. on June 22, 2011.

The baby was initially taken to Royal Columbian Hospital, but was then transferred to Children's Hospital in Vancouver, where he died three days later.

IHIT was called in to investigate the case on June 24, 2011 and worked closely with the New Westminster Police Service, the Ministry of Children and Family Development, a pathologist and medical staff from B.C. Children's Hospital.

Dobranski was arrested on March 9, 2012 at her New Westminster residence.

"On behalf of the integrated homicide investigation team, our hearts go out to the family of Joyce, who are now struggling to deal with both of these tragic losses," Sgt. Jennifer Pound said in a press release.
