Power has been restored in two New Westminster neighbourhoods after a tree fell in Queen's Park.
Blair Fryer, the city's communications manager, said a tree behind Queen's Park Arena, near the tennis courts, fell at about 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19. When it fell, it went across some power lines.
"It caused some immediate sparking," he said of an incident attended by fire and electrical departments. "It was a dangerous situation."
According to Fryer, the city was required to cut power in order to address the situation and some residences in the Victoria Hill and Queen's Park neighbourhoods were temporarily without power. The city's electrical workers replaced a cross arm manually on a power pole and restored power at 12:50 p.m.
"No injuries," he said. "The damage was isolated to the power pole itself."
The city had received information about other power outages, but those were isolated to a few households.
Meanwhile, city crews continue to respond to snow conditions throughout the city.
"Our crews are out in full force and working as quickly as possible to clear the roads," Fryer told The Record Wednesday afternoon.
