The Record is continuing with its popular Top Five Things to Do in the Royal City this Weekend feature. Here are The Record's staff's picks for this weekend.

1. Get cultural with the New Westminster Cultural Crawl, running on both Aug. 13 and 14 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event features 29 venues and more than 50 artists showing off the best of their work. Venues include the River Market, the Van Dop Gallery and even an English tea party at Port Royal Garden. For more info, go to www.newwestculturalcrawl.com.

2. Get proud with the second annual Pride Festival, running from Aug. 11 to 14. One of the highlights will be the pride proclamation at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13 on the steps of city hall. Other events include Lesismore and Diva Gurls playing on Friday, the Hills & Heels fundraiser on Saturday, a pride barbecue, dance and festival on Saturday and even brunch on both Saturday and Sunday. 3. Get dancing in the square on Friday, Aug. 12 with a free Latin dancing class. The event's at 7 p.m. at Hyack Square at the foot of Eighth Street and Columbia. The event is weather permitting, so visit www.dancewithmenewwest.com on the day of the event to see if the dancing is going ahead.

4. Get a taste for reading because it's the final weekend of the New Westminster Library's summer reading program for adults. The draws for all prizes take place at the library on Saturday, Aug. 13 and at the end of the summer, the library will release a list of the Royal City's favourite books.

5. Get composting or rain collecting by buying rain barrels and backyard composters from the engineering works yard at 901 First St. The facility's open between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. and for only $75, you can get a 75 gallon rain barrel, or for only $30, you get an 80 gallon backyard composter.
