The New Westminster school district's controversial business company, which runs a school in China, is holding its annual general meeting tomorrow.

The purpose of the meeting is to receive the report of the business company from the auditors for the financial year ending June 30; a report on the company from CEO Brent Atkinson; and appointment of directors of the business company.

According to the School Act, the business company must hold an annual general meeting that is open to the public. The meeting will be held in council chambers at city hall at 5:30 p.m.

For years, the enterprise was a drain on the district's coffers, but it has managed to turn a meaningful profit in recent years.

According to a district financial update from last March, the company was expected to bring in about $350,000 last year. Brian Sommerfeldt could not be reached at press time to confirm this figure.

Atkinson, who also could not be reached at press time to confirm the amount the district would receive from the company for last year's budget.

The school district recently revealed that is had a surprise $2.2 million dollar deficit from last year.
