New Westminster resident Judy Darcy sworn in as MLA

After topping the polls in New Westminster in the May 14 provincial election, Judy Darcy has been sworn in as New Westminster's new Member of the Legislative Assembly.

After topping the polls in New Westminster in the May 14 provincial election, Judy Darcy has been sworn in as New Westminster's new Member of the Legislative Assembly.

Darcy attended MLA orientation on June 11 and was sworn in as MLA the following day.

"It's official! Thrilled to be sworn in today as MLA for New Westminster," she tweeted on Tuesday. "B.C. Leg. sitting very soon."

At The Record's press time, the government had not announced a date for MLAs to sit in the Legislature, nor had the NDP announced its critics.

Darcy is expected to open a constituency office at 737 Sixth St. in early July, after the space is renovated and services such as phone and Internet are activated. She's moving into the space formerly leased by her NDP predecessor Dawn Black, who retired prior to the provincial election.

Community members are expected to be able to access Darcy by phone and email within a week at [email protected] or 604-775-2101.
