New Westminster city council is concerned about recent charges to Telus customers.

Members of the city’s seniors advisory committee recently discussed Telus’s decision to charge people $2 for paper bills.

“I think this is outrageous,” said Coun. Bill Harper, noting many seniors don’t have computers or the skills needed to do online billing.

Council approved a motion to direct staff to write to Telus to express concern about the $2 monthly fee for paper bills.

Coun. Betty McIntosh questioned whether Telus is the only company charging customers for getting paper bills in the mail.

“I agree with the motion,” she said. “I wonder if there are other providers doing the same process that we may want to communicate with?”
