A member of TransLink's transit police force is being investigated by New Westminster police after being involved in an altercation in a bar on Sept.

A member of TransLink's transit police force is being investigated by New Westminster police after being involved in an altercation in a bar on Sept. 12

The sergeant currently is on a three-month unpaid leave to allow him to go to Ireland due to a family medical issue, transit police spokeswoman Anne Drennan said.

"Once he returns, a decision will have to be made then as to his duty status," said Drennan.

The investigation is ongoing.

At the time of the incident, the officer was on medical leave, so he was on medical continuance and was not being paid by transit police, Drennan said.

Medical continuance is funded by his union, the Canadian Office and Professional Employees, and begins after 30 days of medical leave.
