The New Westminster Police Department’s Street Crime Unit recently wrapped up a drug enforcement project with several arrests and search warrants being executed. The project began in early June, with a number of undercover purchases of cocaine from subjects at various locations in New Westminster.
On July 9, the Street Crime Unit arrested three males and executed two residential search warrants, one in New Westminster and one in south Burnaby, with the assistance of the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team.
According to New Westminster police, officers seized a number of items during the course of this investigation: several ounces of cocaine; a large quantity of psilocybin mushrooms; a small amount of marijuana; approximately $10,000 in cash; one handgun; several replica firearms; and pepper spray. Police also seized two vehicles as offence-related property.
“We are very pleased with the success of this operation,” said Staff Sgtt Paul Hyland. “We have disrupted a local drug trafficking cell and taken a quantity of drugs and a firearm off the street. Further to that, we shall continue our efforts in this regard by proactively targeting drug dealing and related illegal activity here in the City.”
The New Westminster Police Department has forwarded a number of drug- and firearm-related charges to Crown Counsel for approval.
