New Westminster firefighters extinguished a fire inside 615 Front St. about 5:10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27. The New Westminster Police Department has been investigating the matter with fire investigators and believes the cause is suspicious.
According to police, the vacant building involved in last week’s fire had already sustained significant damage in last October’s fire. Fire tore though the E.L. Lewis and Hamley blocks on Columbia Street on the morning of Oct. 10, but fire crews were able to stop the flames before they spread to the adjacent Cunningham Block.
Police are asking for anyone with information about the fire to contact Det. Const. Martha Miszkurka at 604-529-2435 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
