The New Westminster Police Department, the Surrey RCMP, the RCMP Air 1 helicopter and the Coast Guard are on scene at the Fraser River after a Thursday morning incident where a tugboat towing a barge sunk.
The incident occurred at approximately 9 a.m. near the Pattullo Bridge.
According to a press release from New Westminster police Staff Sgt. Paul Hyland, private vessels helped in the response effort. Both crew members from the tugboat were rescued, with one being transported to hospital for treatment of undetermined injuries.
The police are remaining on the scene and will release further details as they become available.
