A report of a possible student with a gun at New Westminster Secondary School last Friday afternoon turned out to be a false alarm.

According to a New Westminster Police Service press release, police surrounded the school after receiving a report of a possible student with a gun at approximately 2:37 p.m.

Two students reported a male, possibly a student, trying to sell them a gun.

All available police units then set up a perimeter around the school and soon confirmed that no threats were made and a firearm was not seen by either student.

According to the police, the school was not locked down.

The New Westminster Police emergency response team conducted a search of the school to confirm that it was clear of any threats, located the male suspect and the police are continuing their investigation into the matter.

Because of scheduled teachers' job action, there are few students in the school today through Wednesday.
