A New Westminster man is facing break-and-enter and assault charges following a violent home invasion Monday night.

Police responded to a suite in the 500-block of 10th Street after receiving a 911 call reporting a break-and-enter in progress just after 8 p.m., according to a press release from Sgt. Gary Weishaar.

The accused had come to the victim's door and demanded to be let in. When the victim refused, the accused forced his way in and assaulted the victim.

"Fortunately, the victim was able to dial 911 for police assistance. The victim's injuries were reportedly minor in nature," Weishaar said in the release.

Once police arrived on the scene, the 38-year-old accused was arrested without incident. He has since been held in custody pending court appearance.
