Toronto Place Park, located at Eighth Street and Royal Avenue, is behind caution tape while NWPD investigate a sexual assault.

Toronto Place Park is closed while police search the park for evidence related to an alleged sexual assault.

Neighbours report that members of the New Westminster Police Department have been at the scene of the park since last night. The small park, located at the corner of Royal Avenue and Eighth Street, is surrounded by yellow caution tape.

NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Sanjay Kumar said NWPD patrol members attended Toronto Place Park just after 10 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 22 in response to a report of a sexual assault.

“They were searching the area for evidence in relation to the offence, but it proved too dark. As a result, they taped the area off and were waiting for daylight to continue their search. At this time, we’re unsure if this was the actual offence location, but we continue to work with our victim to learn details,” he said in an email to the Record. “The park will remain closed for the time being, until investigators are done with the search.”
