New Westminster police are looking for a man who's alleged to have pepper sprayed a bus driver and two transit passengers on Sunday night.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:46 p.m. when a group of five people, three men and two women, travelling from the 22nd Street SkyTrain station, were getting off a bus on Eighth Avenue between Colborne Street and McBride Boulevard.

According to Sgt. Diana McDaniel of the New Westminster Police Department, one of the men got into a verbal altercation with the bus driver.

"One male got verbally abusive with the bus driver and then he pepper sprayed the bus driver and two other adult passengers," said McDaniel, who added that the man and his friends fled on foot after the incident.

After firefighters, police and paramedics came to the scene, they flushed out the eyes of the three people who had been pepper sprayed.

"The injuries were relatively minor," said McDaniel.

Police are now looking for the group of five people, and in particular, the male who's alleged to have done the pepper spraying.

"We have not made any arrests," McDaniel told The Record on Monday morning, "but we have investigators working on this case."
