The New Westminster Police Department is hoping the public can help locate some valuable native artwork that was taken from an unguarded bag at the New West Quay.

According to a press release, a man was walking along the boardwalk at the Quay on April 27 when he put his bag down and left it unattended for a few minutes. When he returned the bag was gone, along with three valuable pieces of artwork, which were in the bag at the time.

The items are as follows: an alder beaver transformation mask and a Three Beaver Brothers print, both by deceased Haida artist Wayne Young, and a cast baton made by artists Art Thompson, Richard Hunt and George Elliot for the Commonwealth Games of Victoria.

According to police, the items are worth between $10,000 and $15,000 in total.
