New Westminster native Kyle Turris ends holdout, signs with Coyotes

TSN.ca is reporting that Kyle Turris, the No. 3 overall draft pick in the 2007 draft, has re-signed with the Phoenix Coyotes.

Turris, a restricted free agent, had refused to play with Phoenix this season when the two sides could not come to an agreement on the terms of a new contract.

Turris reportedly will earn $1.2 million in the first year of the contract and $1.6 million the following year.

During the contract negotiations, Turris had asked the Coyotes, through his agent, for a trade in late October.

In response, Phoenix general manager Don Maloney maintained that Turris would not be traded and the club was willing to have their first-round draft pick sit out the remainder of the season if he did not sign.

Under the rules of the collective bargaining agreement, Turris had until Dec. 1 to sign a contract or risk being ineligible to play in the league this season.

"I am happy to sign with Phoenix and start playing," Turris reportedly said in a prepared statement. "It's been a long process, but now I am focused on playing and helping the team win."

Last season, Turris scored 11 goals and 25 points in 65 games. In his career, Turris has tallied 19 times and 27 assists.
