New Westminster MLA Dawn Black is endorsing candidates for city council and school board.
Black said she has always worked with members of city council and school board on local issues. While she may not have made a formal endorsement of candidates in the past, she said she's always supported certain candidates.
"This is taking it one step further," she said. "I was asked if I would do it. I said yes because I have a lot of confidence in these people."
A voice mail that's going out to community members informs residents of the candidates Black is supporting for city council: Jonathan Cote; Bill Harper; Jaimie McEvoy; Chuck Puchmayr; and Lorrie Williams. She's also supporting Jonina Campbell, Michael Ewen, James Janzen and David Phelan for school board.
"I am not endorsing any of the candidates for mayor," she said. "I think there are some great candidates running. None of them have asked me to endorse them. The people I have endorsed share the same political affiliation."
All of the candidates that Black is supporting have been endorsed by the New Westminster and District Labour Council, with the exception of Puchmayr who announced his candidacy too late to get its support.
