A 30-year-old New Westminster resident is facing 16 charges after a rash of robberies and break-and-enters that occurred between Jan. 22 and Feb. 28.

Patrick Brown has been charged with 12 counts of robbery and four counts of break-and-enter.

Brown was arrested after a Feb. 28 incident where a citizen interrupted a man who had broken into a residence in the 800-block of Royal Avenue. The citizen followed the man on foot while calling 911 and observed him enter another residence.

New Westminster police officers quickly responded to the scene and took the man into custody. Further investigation by the police service's major crime, street crime, operational support and forensic identification units linked the man to a number of other robberies and break-and-enters that had taken place in the previous five weeks.

Brown is in custody pending his next court appearance.
