A 52-year-old New Westminster man died in a four-vehicle motor vehicle accident on Stewardson Way on Friday afternoon.
According to New Westminster police, the initial investigation indicates a vehicle crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a semi truck that was traveling eastbound on Stewardson Way. Norman Wilding, the driver of the vehicle that struck the semi truck, was critically injured at the scene and later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
The accident occurred on Friday, Feb. 28 at 4 p.m. in the 1600 block of Stewardson Way. The New Westminster Police Department’s collision analysis reconstruction team processed the scene, which required the closure of Stewardson Way for a number of hours.
The investigation caused gridlock for afternoon commuters, with many motorists unaware that the traffic had been caused by a fatal accident.
According to police, no other injuries were reported at the scene, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
