A delivery man was stabbed in the stomach in the 400-block of Eighth Street on Tuesday morning.
At about 6:30 a.m., two men were making a delivery from a prescription delivery service and were verbally accosted by a male at the building's entrance, according to a New Westminster Police Department press release.
After the deliverymen left the building, the male confronted them again. As they attempted to get into their delivery truck and drive away, he allegedly kicked one of the vehicle's doors, which closed on the hand of one of the deliverymen in the vehicle.
He then attempted to punch the same man in the head, according to the release, but punched him in the abdomen instead.
He then got into a vehicle, and the victim took several photos of him as he left.
Soon after, the victim realized he'd actually been stabbed, and went to a local hospital for treatment, the release stated.
A suspect was identified and arrested later in the day by the Surrey RCMP.
Michael Stanley Watt, a 50-year-old New Westminster resident, has been charged with one count each of assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon and mischief.
Watts is still in custody and his next court appearance is May 23 at New Westminster Provincial Court, the release stated.
