An online survey and a workshop are two ways you can offer input into New Westminster’s 2020 budget in January.

The City of New Westminster will hire a consultant to help it develop and implement a framework that advances diversity, inclusion and equity across the civic organization. Diversity and inclusion is also something being pursued by the New Westminster Police Department.

An online survey and a workshop are two ways you can offer input into New Westminster’s 2020 budget in January.

As part of its community engagement regarding the 2020 to 2024 financial plan, the City of New Westminster is holding a capital program workshop on Thursday, Jan. 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Anvil Centre. The community workshop, which will be facilitated by city staff, is designed to allow for more focused discussion on specific items in the proposed 2020 capital program.

Community members are invited to bring budget questions to the workshop, where staff from various departments will listen and gather their feedback.

Light refreshments will be provided and childminding for kids aged 18 months to 12 years is available. To RSVP for the workshop (by 8 p.m. on Jan. 8) go to www.eventbrite.ca (Search for Budget 2020 workshop).

People are also invited to provide input in the 2020 to 2024 financial plan by taking an online survey, which is available until Jan. 17. The survey is found on the city’s website, www.newwestcity.ca.

The current focus of the 2020 budget is on the proposed 2020 to 2024 capital program, which respond to council’s declaration of a climate emergency by prioritizing climate emergency actions in the city’s work plan. In November, council approved  “seven bold steps” to address climate change, which relate to a carbon-free corporation, a car-light community, carbon-free homes and buildings, pollution-free vehicles, carbon-free energy, a robust urban forest and a people-centred public realm.

During the budget consultation process, the city is seeking input on the seven bold steps.
