A cigarette is to blame for starting a small fire on Monday morning.
New Westminster fire crews attended a fire at 52 Royal Ave. on April 9.
"There was a small couch fire," said Chief James Cornell. "The fire was determined to be started by a cigarette in the couch."
After spotting the fire, Cornell said the tenants dragged the burning couch onto the balcony. Fire crews arrived and extinguished the blaze.
"There is no damage to anything other than the couch," he said.
No one was injured in the fire. Traffic in the area was temporarily redirected.
