The mystery of the missing Maltese has been solved.
A Queen's Park family thought their two-and-half-pound toy Maltese may have been snapped away from their front yard on First Street because it was so unusual for the dog to leave their property.
But a woman came forward Saturday with the dog - named Sierra - that the dog had actually approached her car. The women told Laura Wright - Sierra belongs to her daughter Whitney - they searched for the dog's owner to no avail.
The dog went missing on Saturday, May 5. Wright contacted The Record last week about her concerns that the dog may have been taken. Then on Friday, Wright heard from a woman, through a missing animal website, that she had the pooch.
The woman brought the dog home to the Wrights on Saturday.
The woman didn't want to accept the offered reward for Sierra's safe return, but she did have one request, Wright said.
She asked if she could take the dog into the park to play with her and her four-year-old daughter every now and then, Wright said.
Initially, Wright questioned whether the tiny dog had been stolen, but now says she doesn't think it was.
As for Sierra, she's doing well, albeit a little heftier than when she began her adventure a week earlier.
"She gained at least a pound," said Wright.
