New Westminster Police Department apprehended a robbery suspect with some help from an observant dispatcher, late last month.
According to a media release, at about 8:30 p.m. on April 30, a man entered a convenience store in the 300-block of Sixth Street and demanded money from the clerk. After getting a small amount of money from the clerk the suspect then fled on foot popping up in the 800-block of Carnarvon Street around 10 p.m. This time at a fast food restaurant, the suspect again demanded money, but was refused. He fled again on foot.
Minutes later, he showed up at another fast food restaurant, where he obtained a small amount of money before once again fleeing on foot, stated the release.
The suspect then continued on foot, along the 500-block of Clarkson Street, where a dispatcher at the police department's office noticed the man in the closed circuit surveillance cameras.
According to the release, the dispatcher notified police and the suspect was caught at the Columbia SkyTrain Station a short while later.
Upon further investigation using closed circuit surveillance footage, police determined the man "to be the robbery suspect from all three locations."
Dale Cecil Ewin, 41, has been charged with three counts of robbery and will appear in court May 8 in New Westminster.
