New Westminster cops catch thieves in the act

It was simply a case of being in the right place at the right time and old-fashioned police instincts that led to New Westminster police busting a break-and-enter in progress last Wednesday night.

According to Acting Sgt. Bruce Carrie, an officer was on routine patrol in the 10th Street area when he noticed broken glass on the door of a local business. The officer entered the business only to find a man still inside the building. The suspect tried to escape by running to a waiting getaway vehicle, but the officer was able to catch him on foot. Police arrested a second man in the vehicle, where they also found items allegedly stolen from the business.

Police say both suspects are known to police. They were held in custody pending their first appearance in court.
