New West welcomes B.C.'s first baby of 2024 — at midnight exactly

New Westminster was home to the first baby born in B.C. for 2024.

Taylor Stutsky was welcomed into the world by parents Julia Goryn and Travis Stutsky at the stroke of midnight on Monday, Jan. 1, in Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH).

Weighing six pounds and 14 ounces, Taylor is the couple's first child, a Fraser Health spokesperson confirmed to the Record.

"A brand-new chapter begins as our community welcomes its tiniest new member," the regional health authority said in a post on social media.

"Congratulations to the proud parents. May your days be filled with giggles, snuggles, and endless moments of wonder."

"Welcome to the world little one, and congratulations to the family," the Province of B.C. added in its own statement.

"We extend our immense gratitude to the dedicated RCH maternity department for their unwavering commitment to excellence in patient care," said the RCH Foundation.
