A trial is underway for the 2013 killing of a Surrey teen who was attacked near the 22nd Street SkyTrain station.
Karim Meskine was just 19 years old when he was beaten with a baseball bat while he was walking to the SkyTrain on the evening of Dec. 17, 2013. Meskine was found unconscious and taken to hospital. He never regained consciousness and died three days later.
The accused, who is a New Westminster resident, cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act because he was 16 years old at the time of the alleged incident. He is charged with second-degree murder.
The trial began on Monday, April 11 in New Westminster Supreme Court, where the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge of second-degree murder and instead entered a guilty plea to manslaughter, according to a report in The Province.
The trial is expected to continue for several weeks.
