Three New Westminster field lacrosse players will be looking to bring a gold medal back to B.C. from the Canadian youth nationals in Quebec over the long weekend.
Nikolas Lund-Murray, Max Gerhardt and Ryan Wilkinson, all of New Westminster, will be suiting up for the under-16 B.C. field lacrosse team in defence of its Alumni midget title Aug. 30 to Sept. 1 The West Coasters have won the u-16 title for the last two seasons.
The u-19 B.C. Selects, including Burnaby long pole Bradley Breadon and forward Daniel Spagnuolo, will be looking to knock off the defending fourtime First Nation Trophy winners from Ontario. B.C.'s junior team won the national title eight times from 1997 through 2008.
Called to Hall
Former Simon Fraser University wrestler Carol Huynh was named for induction into the International Wrestling Federation Hall of Fame.
Huynh won a gold medal in the women's freestyle at 48 kilograms at the 2008 Olympics.
She also earned a bronze at the 2012 Games, while the world championships winning a silver medal 2001 and three other bronze from 2000 to 2010.
