New West police seek witnesses to early-morning assault on Alexander Street

Witnesses wanted: New Westminster police are investigating after a man was allegedly assaulted by two suspects with weapons around 1:30 a.m. on May 1 in downtown New West.

A man was taken to hospital with significant injuries after being assaulted in downtown New West during in the wee hours of the night.

The New Westminster Police Department is asking witnesses to come forward after a man was assaulted downtown at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1.

It was around 3 a.m. when New West police learned that a “victim in distress” was located near the intersection of Carnarvon Street and Alexander Street. Police and BC Emergency Health Services paramedics located a victim with “significant but non-life-threatening injuries” and provided him with aid and transported him to the hospital, said a NWPD news release.

“At this time, officers are canvassing the area for CCTV footage of the suspects,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver lease. “This assault occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m., and there are indications this is a targeted assault.”

According to the New Westminster Police Department, it is believed two individuals armed with weapons assaulted this victim.
