New West police search for suspect in unprovoked assault on woman

A man allegedly made sexualized comments to a woman before assaulting her, knocking her to the ground, kicking her and threatening her

New Westminster police are seeking the public’s help in finding a man suspected of being involved in an unprovoked assault.

According to the New Westminster Police Department, a woman called 911 about noon on Monday, Sept. 12 saying she had been assault near the 700 block of 22nd Street.

“The caller shared that a man had approached her and made sexualized comments before he assaulted her, knocked her to the ground, and kicked her,” said a NWPD press release. “He then produced an item believed to be a knife and further threatened her.”

Police say he victim was transported to local hospital with minor injuries.

While police searched the surrounding area for someone matching the suspect description no suspect could be located. Police have released a photo and a description of the suspect.

The suspect is described as male, approximately 30 years of age, standing 5’7” tall, with a medium build, and short black hair. The suspect spoke with an accent. At the time of the assault the suspect was wearing a blue T-shirt and grey pants.

“We’re asking the public to help us identify this suspect,” NWPD Staff-Sgt. Jeff Scott said in a news release. “Please take a close look at the photograph. If this is someone you recognize we ask that you call police.”
