A suspect hid in a storage locker to try and avoid being caught – but it didn’t work out too well.
The New Westminster Police Department received a 911 call about 10:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 21 from someone who had witnessed their apartment building’s storage lockers being broken into. The caller said the suspect was making lots of noise and had strewn belongings all over the floor.
“When officers arrived the suspect did not follow instructions to come out from the storage lockers,” said a NWPD press release. “Eventually, the suspect was safely arrested after he was found hiding inside one of the lockers.”
Police are recommending charges of break and enter, mischief and failing to comply with an undertaking against a 41-year-old New Westminster resident.
“This resident absolutely did the right thing by calling 911 when they saw a crime in progress,” NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Sanjay Kumar said in a news release. “Calling 911 allows our officers to quickly arrive on scene and make arrests.”
The police department encourages renters and owners of residential properties to contact the NWPD’s crime prevention coordinator for tips and advice on making their building more secure.
