New Westminster's major crime unit is investigating a stabbing that happened in the 400-block of 12th Street last night.
Around 8:50 p.m. Wednesday night, police received a call from Surrey RCMP saying a stabbing victim had shown up at the local hospital and following a short investigation they had determined the incident happened in an apartment along 12th Street in New Westminster.
According to a New West police department press release, officers went to the location and found the suspect, who was taken into custody without incident.
"The male suspect, a 23-year-old New Westminster resident, remains in custody as the investigation continues, while the victim remains in hospital in serious condition," said Staff Sgt. Paul Hyland, in the release.
Hyland couldn't comment on the extent of the victim's injuries but said the attack is not believed to be random and is not gang related.
"The NWPD major crime unit has taken over this investigation and ... the motive for the incident has yet to be determined," he added.
