Three people were taken to hospital Tuesday night in two separate collisions near the New Westminster-Burnaby border.
The series of events started at about 11:15 p.m. when a cyclist was hit by a car in the 900 block of 12th Street. The victim, a man from New Westminster, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
While this was going on, a police cruiser travelling westbound on 10th Avenue on its way to the scene, collided with another vehicle at Canada Way. Neither the police officer nor the driver of the other car were badly injured in the crash. Both were taken to hospital, where they were checked by doctors and released, according to a media release from New West police.
An investigation into the crash is underway, but because it took place on the Burnaby side of 10th Avenue, the Burnaby RCMP are handling the file.
“We’re thankful that no one was seriously injured in either of these collisions,” Acting Sgt. Jeff Scott, spokesperson for the New West police, said in the release.
The Record contacted the Burnaby RCMP, but Mounties would not comment on the investigation at this time.
