An officer was sent to hospital on Sunday after an alleged stolen vehicle struck the patrol car he was driving.

At about 9 p.m. on Sept. 1, a New Westminster police officer was out on patrol, driving in a marked police car, when another vehicle hit the officer's car at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and 12th Street, according to a media release.

The police officer was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while the driver of the vehicle, which was allegedly stolen, fled on foot. The driver is still on the run at this time, but the passenger of the vehicle was apprehended by police at the scene, stated the release.

New Westminster's collision analysis and reconstruction team has taken over the investigation and have nothing further to report at this time.
