New Westminster police arrested a suspect after receiving a report of an armed robbery at a downtown bank.

New Westminster police nabbed a suspect within minutes of a bank robbery.

At about 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13, the New Westminster Police Department received a call reporting an armed robbery at a financial institution in the downtown neighbourhood. The NWPD reports that its patrol, traffic unit, and crime reduction unit responded immediately and the quickly identified and took a suspect into custody.

“This was exceptional work by all the involved members,” Deputy Chief Const. Paul Hyland said in a news release. “That this suspect was safely taken into custody within 20 minutes is amazing. I am very proud of the work done keeping our community safe.”

Frederick Thrones, a 53-year-old Surrey resident, has been charged with one count of robbery.
