The New Westminster Police Department is getting more efficient at making you pay.

An electronic ticketing initiative is being rolled out by the provincial road safety initiative, and eventually all municipal police departments and RCMP detachments will adopt the technology, which is coming to New Westminster this summer.

With a swipe of a driver’s licence, E-ticketing fills the details of a traffic ticket automatically, and will be printed from the police vehicle and shared directly with the Insurance Corp. or B.C.

“Drivers can pay their ticket online,” said Sgt. Greg Smith of the NWPD traffic unit.

“Thanks to the auto-fill feature, this will result in less time pulled off to the side of the road with fewer administrative errors.”

The E-ticketing system will start with the traffic unit and expand as more police vehicles are equipped with the technology.
