A New West man is looking forward to taking his three brothers on a European vacation after a big win on a Scratch & Win game.

Stephen McBride scored the top prize of $675,000 when playing the B.C. Lottery Corporation’s Set for Life Scratch & Win game. He was at the 7-Eleven store on 12th Street waiting in line to pay for his soda, when he noticed the people in front of him purchasing some lottery tickets and decided to pick one up as well.

“I was there at 7-Eleven validating the ticket on the self-checker when the screen ‘froze’”, he recalled of the moment he realized he won. “I spoke to the lady and she said, ‘Congratulations!’ I had to ask her what the grand prize amount was… it was surreal!”

The New West resident first shared the good news with his twin brother.

“He had the same surreal feeling and thought I was joking,” McBride said in a BCLC news release.

McBride plans to take his brothers to Italy and then to Normandy, France where they will visit the famous landing beaches from the Second World War. Aside from the vacation, McBride said he’s looking forward to an early retirement in the near future.

According to BCLC, B.C. lottery players redeemed more than $11 million in Set for Life prizes in 2022.
