New Westminster police seized a long metal rod with pointed ends after a man alleged he'd been chased by a neighbour with a spear.

A New West resident claims his neighbour threatened his life and chased him with a spear following a disagreement about noise.

A resident called the New Westminster Police Department about 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1 claiming his neighbour had threatened to kill him and chased him with a spear. Police say it’s alleged that a verbal altercation about noise in the building preceded the incident.

The NWPD says the suspect was located inside his residence when police officers arrived at the scene.  He followed the direction of police officers and was safely taken into custody.

According to the NWPD, officers seized a long metal pointed rod which had been placed next to the front door.

“A long metal rod that was seized from inside an apartment building,” said a NWPD press release. “The rod had pointed ends and is approximately 4 feet tall.”

Charges related to weapons and uttering threats are being considered.

“Thankfully, no one was hurt during this incident,” said NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Sanjay Kumar in a press release. “Disagreements between neighbours happen, and when it does we encourage people to slow down, make good decisions, and treat one another with respect. That didn’t happen in this instance.”
