The doors to London Drugs in Westminster Centre are temporarily closed while a detailed cleaning takes place. The closure follows a fire in the HVAC system.

If you were planning to make a trip to London Drugs this afternoon, the store may or may not be open when you get there.

The London Drugs store in Westminster Centre is temporarily closed following a fire on Thursday night. Efforts are underway to reopen the store as soon as possible.

“Last night, at approximately 8:45 p.m., London Drugs in New Westminster needed to close due to a fire in the HVAC system above the store,” the company said in a statement to the Record on Friday afternoon. “The fire department gave the all-clear at 11 p.m., but today there is noticeable particulate in the store, and so we are closing the store temporarily for a detailed clean, and will reopen once evaluators have determined it is safe to do so.”

A shopper told the Record she’d entered the store just after 11:30 a.m. on Friday, and the doors had been closed by the time she returned to the front of the store. The customer, who was allowed to make her purchases before leaving the store, said she didn’t smell smoke or see any particulate.

“Good thing we are all wearing masks,” she quipped.

London Drugs currently has no time estimate on when the store will reopen.
