New Westminster Public Library’s Main Branch is open for business after our recent five-week closure. We’re happy to be open to the public on both service floors and we’ll be rolling out new programs and services over the next few weeks.
Two new offerings kick off the return of library programs. New West Reads will meet at 2-3 p.m. on both April 13 and April 23. Come tell us about the great book you just read and get recommendations for your next great read. This is a drop-in, so no registration required.
On April 14 from 2-3:30 p.m., we’ll be celebrating National Poetry Month with a Poetry Workshop hosted by New Westminster’s current Poet Laureate, Alan Hill. Join Alan to discover your inner poet and explore poetry about our wonderful city. No writing experience necessary, but space is limited so registration is required. Can’t make it on April 14? This program will also be offered in the evening on April 24 at 7 p.m.
Poetry celebrations continue from 2-4 p.m. on April 27 with Blackout Poetry. At this drop-in program we’ll be using felt markers and pages from discarded books to cross out words and leave some spontaneous poetry behind. Staff will be on hand to show you how.
We’ll have more information on the Technology Lab soon, but here’s what we are teaching for the next few weeks. Microsoft Word for Beginners will be offered at 2-3 p.m. on April 16 and 7-8 p.m. on April 25. Introduction to Lynda will be offered at 7-8 p.m. on April 18 and 2-3 p.m. on April 23. Space is limited in the lab, so registration is required.
We’ve got technology offerings for Children as well. Code Club (for 9-12 years) will meet a 3:30-4:30 p.m. on April 23. Participants will learn basic coding with the programming language Scratch. To register, email [email protected] or call 604-527-4677.
