New Westminster will be doing a “callout” to community organizations in an attempt to promote a Yes vote in the upcoming transportation referendum.
Coun. Chuck Puchmayr said the city has “no choice” but to support a Yes vote. The money raised by a 0.5 per cent increase to the provincial sales tax would be used to fund transit and transportation improvements.
“It could be won or lost in New West,” he said. “We have to really make sure we get the vote out. We have the most to lose.”
Council has endorsed a transportation and transit referendum action plant that promotes voter registration and encourages New West residents to vote Yes in the mail-in ballot on the TransLink Mayor’s Council vision and investment plan. The city will participate in and support a New Westminster coalition of stakeholders promoting the Yes vote.
Blair Fryer, the city’s communications manager, said actions will include promoting the Yes vote through social media, the digital billboard, signage at city facilities, newspapers and bus shelters.
