Constable Claus – accompanied by an elf – will help the police department spread some joy this holiday season.

The New Westminster Police Department is inviting families to a meet-and-greet with Constable Claus, the “newest member” of the NWPD. At this event, Constable Claus and Elf will be collecting donations in support of the Don’t Go Hungry food support program.

“Now more than ever, we’re needing to look out for our neighbours,” said NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “We’re calling on folks from across the city to please consider donating to help support those in need. Help us fill Constable Claus’s bag with donations for our friends at Don’t Go Hungry.”

In addition to dropping off donations, families will be able to have photos taken with Constable Claus, and enjoy festive treats and face painting.

Community members are invited to meet Constable Claus on Wednesday, Dec. 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. behind the New Westminster Police Department (555 Columbia St.) in the Clarkson Street parking lot. Nearby parking is available at the Front Street parkade and on Church Street, and the Columbia SkyTrain station is located nearby.

Constable Claus and Elf will be collecting donations that are currently needed by the Don’t Go Hungry food program, including: nut butters; canned meat, beans, chili, chunky style canned soups; fruit snacks; apple sauce; fruit cups; granola bars; dish soap; laundry soap; toothpaste; shampoo; deodorant; soap; toilet paper; feminine hygiene products; diapers; and baby wipes. Cash donations will also be accepted.

Don’t Go Hungry serves 1,500 people every Saturday, at four locations in New Westminster and South Burnaby. In New West, the program is offered at the Queensborough Community Centre, Trinity West-End (formerly St. Aidan’s) and Trinity Columbia (formerly Knox Presbyterian).
